Q & A - WITH RABBI RISKIN

Question. We are inundated with parsha commentary sheets every Friday. Must they all be sent to geniza?

Answer. The one written object which must be sent to geniza are the seven Hebrew names of G-d, which the Rambam calls "the seven names which cannot be erased."

Anything else -- including the "two yod" shortened form of writing G-d's name as well as full verses which do not spell out G-d's full name -- does not require geniza. These things should be carefully and respectfully wrapped and may then be disposed of in the garbage.

If you have a question for Q & A, send it to ots@ohrtorahstone.org.il . We cannot guarantee that all questions received will be answered in this column.
