OTS Newsletter- Winter 2001

OTS Alumni in England
"Learning is a crucial element of leadership," says England's newly-appointed chief executive of United Synagogue, Joseph Straus Rabbinical Seminary alumnus Rabbi Saul Zneimer. Zneimer, 40, who previously directed the Jewish Outreach Network and served as rabbi of the Kenton Synagogue, keeps weekly luncheon chevruta study date with Rabbi Shaul Robinson, another Straus-ordained rabbi and spiritual leader of the Barnett Synagogue in North London.

Rabbis Zneimer and Robinson are part of a large group of Ohr Torah Stone alumni in London, many of whom will be reuniting at an OTS reunion Shabbaton being planned in conjunction with London's Saatchi Synagogue for the weekend of January 12-13. "The Shabbaton will give alumni of Yeshivat Hamivtar Orot Lev, the Straus Rabbinical Seminary and Midreshet Lindenbaum the opportunity to reconnect and be inspired by Rabbi Riskin and Rabbi Brovender", says Robinson, who is arranging the retreat at London's Marriott Hotel with the cooperation of Saatchi's Rabbi Pini Dunner. "Many of the OTS alumni in England are involved in rabbinical or educational careers; in addition to catching up with our old friends, the Shabbaton will give us a chance to recharge our batteries, compare notes and trade new ideas with our peers." The Shabbaton will culminate in a Melave Malka which will be open to the general public.

"The experience of having studied at Ohr Torah Stone remains a vital and ongoing connection that is helping many young rabbis make a significant impact on the Jewish community here," Zneimer stresses. "The ongoing involvement of Rabbi Riskin and Rabbi Brovender strengthens the rabbis and reinforces the positive relationship between Ohr Torah Stone and British Jewry."
