Rabbi Gideon Sylvester, who received his semicha from the Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus Rabbinical Seminary, returns to OTS as executive director of Yeshivat Hamivtar – Torat Yosef and the Straus Seminary, after seven years of service as rabbi of the Radlett United Synagogue in London. During his tenure, the synagogue became Britain’s fastest growing Jewish community, growing from a fledgling congregation of 250 families into a dynamic community of more than 550. “In England, I stayed connected with my Ohr Torah Stone roots as the OTS representative in the UK,” says Sylvester. “Now, I’m staying connected with the Anglo-Jewish community as the United Synagogue’s representative rabbi in Israel, meeting with visiting groups from the UK, serving as scholar-in-residence in various programs and staying in touch with young British students who are spending the year in Israel.”
