Rosh Hashana
When Rosh Hashana falls on Shabbat --as it does this year-- the sounds of the shofar are silenced. (B.T. Rosh Hashana 29b) Although some people may welcome the slightly abbreviated synagogue service, the fact is that many will find it disconcerting that the very symbol of Rosh Hashana, the shofar, will not be blown on the first day of Rosh Hashana
